Truth be told, there is beauty in every corner of the planet. There is not one place on the face of the earth that doesn’t radiate some form of beauty. Why certain locations become tourist hotspots probably has more to do with the deliberate effort of its government and its people to brand them as such.
Places like Paris and Maldives are usually at the top of most travel bucket lists. However, there are a lot of other cool locations that are worth a look at. Today, we shine the spotlight on those destinations that don’t get as much love in pop culture. Here are some of the most underrated travel destinations.
- Oman
- Laos
- Cape Verde
- Georgia
- Seville
- Big Island Hawaii
- Wyoming
- Belize
- Mexico
- Nicaragua
- Slovenia
OMAN
Oman is a marvel, period! Sadly, most travelers don’t even consider it, although that has begun to change in recent years. If you love sand and that desert aesthetic, then Oman is a must-see. From endless sand dunes to clear blue waters, Oman has got it all. The people of Oman are very peaceful and friendly. The country is also very safe to drive around. This place is truly amazing.
LAOS
Most tourists who want to explore Southeast Asia usually gravitate towards countries like Thailand or Malaysia. Luckily for you and me, they pass up on a rare gem like Laos. Laos may not offer a thriving urban metropolis, but what it lacks in urbanization, it makes up for in other ways. Lush rainforests, ancient temples, and amazing cuisine are some of Laos’ charms.
CAPE VERDE
Cape Verde is a group of islands off the African coast. Most people haven’t heard of it, let alone know where it is. Hidden in Cape Verde are nature’s masterpieces. Trust me, this country will leave you speechless. You get to experience volcanic landscapes, world-class hiking trails, and best of all, a multicultural populace. Cape Verde should definitely be on your travel bucket list.
GEORGIA
Georgia is a good example of how things can change for a country when a conscious effort is made to make things better. Georgia is now transformed into a European paradise. In Georgia, you will find people in high spirits (maybe the ‘ChaCha’ moonshine has something to do with that), and a large chunk of ancient history in the form of breathtaking architecture. Also, let’s not forget Georgia’s spectacular hiking trails.
SEVILLE
If you want to see Spain from a slightly different perspective, then Seville is the way to go. Not only is Seville cheaper to explore compared to its rivals Barcelona and Madrid. Seville is exceedingly rich in the departments of culture and history. If European architecture floats your boat, then you are definitely going to want to see Seville.
BIG ISLAND HAWAII
Big Island is rarely ever in the spotlight. The other Hawaiian Islands of Oahu, Maui, and Kauai are usually the most visited. For those that want to escape the crowds of tourists commonly found on the other Hawaiian Islands, Big Island will definitely surpass your expectations. If you want to see expansive lava fields, live volcanos, and of course, one of the world’s only green sand beaches, then, Big Island awaits.
WYOMING
Wyoming is for those looking for that authentic American outback experience. Wyoming is home to a slew of Parks and resorts like the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. These parks alone make Wyoming worth a visit. However, Wyoming has so much more to offer.
In Wyoming, you will find invaluable pieces of American history; old-world towns. Let’s not forget the free-roaming wildlife that graces the expansive landscapes. Your travel photo album is not complete if you don’t have a shot from Wyoming.
BELIZE
Belize is just like Mexico but with one major advantage; fewer crowds. Belize is a tropical paradise with sunshine to die for, lush greenery, and enjoyment for any budget. Want to live it up and experience world-class luxury or do you want a budget-friendly backpacking experience? Belize has got you covered. It truly is surprising that most of the world hasn’t discovered the marvel that is Belize. Now you know, go explore.
MEXICO
This isn’t a typo, Mexico is indeed a popular tourist destination, but some parts of Mexico are for the most part underrated or undiscovered. One of such destinations is Loreto in Baja California. Imagine Cabo but less crowded, cheaper, and with better beaches. That is Loreto in a nutshell.
Another location is La Paz, still in Baja California. La Paz is a few hours from Cabo and is well known for its unique cafes and exquisite food. Also, you are going to want to check out Cozumel in Mexico. Cozumel is a neighbor to Cancun but is a much quieter and laidback version of that city. Cozumel’s most notable feature is its waters. They are blue as can be and are a joy to swim in.
NICARAGUA
Nicaragua is a central American heaven. It is an inexpensive place to visit, so much so that some people call it the Poor man’s Costa Rica. Nicaragua’s cities like Leon and Guacalito De La Isla are fast becoming renowned tourist destinations. In Nicaragua, you get to experience beaches in their purest form.
SLOVENIA
There are a lot of people that haven’t heard of the country Slovenia. How that’s even possible is crazy. Slovenia is straight from a fairy tale novel. No cap. The architecture and scenery are next to none. It’s a small country and you can travel around it in a few days.
So, next time you are planning a vacation, instead of running off to those destinations that are filled with tourists, why not take a look at a place on this list. Sure, these locations may not be as glamourous as some of the best destinations out there, but maybe, just maybe, they can offer you something more, something invaluable.
